To inform research funding programmes such as the European Union’s next research framework programme, ESHRE has developed a list of topics related to infertility on which further research is expected to have a particularly high and beneficial impact.

Recommended research topics

How topics were selected

A broad list of potential research topics was compiled from ESHRE guidelines, prior topic suggestions for the ESHRE research grants and suggestions of experts in the project working group. The potential impact of research on each topic was assessed independently by the working group members using a scoring tool with impact indicators across three areas:

- Impact on individuals seeking to fulfil their child wish
- Impact on society as a whole
- Impact on science in the field of reproductive medicine
