Course type

Advanced ánd Basic

Course co-ordinator(s)
Johnny Awwad (Lebanon) and Mohammad Aboulghar (Egypt)

Course description
Although advances in the field of Assisted Reproduction have improved significantly the reproductive outcome for infertile couples, a riddle nonetheless remains which is the management of women with recurrent implantation failure (RIF). Repeat cycle failures can leave couples scarred and desperate for solutions. RIF is a complex condition with a wide variety of uncertain etiologies and very often highly controversial treatment options.
This precongress course discusses some of these practices and their impact on the success of IVF/ICSI in view of emerging scientific evidence.

Target audience

  • Reproductive Endocrinologists and Fertility Specialists
  • Biologists involved in Assisted Reproductive Technologies
  • Policy Regulators and Representatives of Third Party Payer

Educational needs and expected outcomes

At the completion of this precongress course, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the mechanisms involved in embryo implantation and implantation failure in IVF/ICSI cycles.
  • Appraise the literature regarding the cost-effectiveness of common practices in the management of recurrent implantation failure on the basis of the evidence.
  • Develop an evidence-based decision tree on when and if these interventions are efficacious and medically indicated.
