Precongress Course 11

SIG Reproductive Genetics  Special Interest Group Reproductive Genetics

Course type

Advanced

Course Co-ordinators

Georgia Kakourou (Greece), Claudia Spits (Belgium), Francesco Fiorentino (Italy), Antonio Capalbo (Italy), Filippo Zambelli (Italy), Stephane Viville (France)

Course description
The course will enhance knowledge on the expanding application of high throughput sequencing -NGS- technology in providing care for all reproducing couples (naturally reproducing or requiring fertility treatment) before and during pregnancy or after childbirth. The course will begin with an introduction to the technology of high throughput sequencing and will seek to address a variety of its applications in reproductive medicine, such as preconception carrier screening, assessment of infertility, preimplantation and prenatal testing and also provide information on how to deal with the data obtained following this test.

Target audience
Gynecologists, embryologists, geneticists, reproductive health counsellors, researchers

Educational needs and expected outcomes
Participants will have to opportunity to discuss and require a basic knowledge on:

  • Applications of high throughput sequencing technology in reproductive medicine
  • Advantages, limitations and controversies surrounding high throughput sequencing analyses
  • Information relevant to genetic counseling prior to pregnancy or fertility treatment
