Animal models of PCOS: evidence for a key role for androgens
Rhesus monkeys and sheep, exposed to high concentrations of androgens during fetal life, as adults show:
• hypersecretion of LH/abnormal LH pulsatility
• ovarian hyperandrogenism
• insulin resistance
• anovulation (more common with increased body weight)
