Temperature
• Critical variable of the culture system that impacts embryo development and viability
• It impacts various aspects of gamete and embryo function, especially meiotic spindle stability ( Sun Zygote 2004, Wang F&S 2002, HR 2001, Leese MHR 2008)
• Even though maintaining temperature stability around 37˚C during oocyte handling & and microinjection is known to be essential, optimal temperature to culture human embryos remains unknown
• Theorotically it’s thought that female reproductive tract has lower temperature than human core body temperature which is 37˚C. And human follicle is ~2.3˚C cooler
• BUT PRACTICALLY DOES THIS WORK BETTER FOR HUMAN EMBRYO CULTURE SYSTEM???
• Retrospective trial of 52 patients
• CPR was increased in cases with >37˚C(61% cooler culture vs.42% normal temperature, an absolute of 19% and relative improvement of 45%)
• FR were also sig. higher in the lower than normal temperature (85% vs. 72%)
