• pH of culture media is very critical since it’s directly controlled by and can vary significantly among labs.
• It’s primarily determined by the bicarbonate concentration in the media and CO2 concentration of the culture incubators
• Although embryos can develop over a range of media pH, variations may impact embryo development
• pHi can impact embryo metabolism, development and fetal growth as shown in mammalian embryo models (Lane 2000, Squirrel 2001, Zender-Fox 2010)
