Clinical issues concerning MVs
Adjuvants:
• Somevaccinescontainadjuvantstoprovidebetter immune response and protection.
• Aluminumsalts(usedinavarietyofvaccinesas hepatitis A, B, tetanus); oil‐water emulsions (as MF59, AS03 used in Flu vaccines) showed no increased risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes.
• ThimerosalhasbeenremovedfromvaccinesinUSA and Europe but there is no evidence that Thimerosal‐ containing vaccines are harmful to offspring (no link to autism).
Maternal vaccination in clinical practice
• Vaccination in pregnancy can be indicated for a variety of reason.
• Recommended vaccinations include:
– Vaccination against influenza
– Vaccination against TdP (diphteria, tetanus and pertussis)
– For other vaccinations benefits should overweight the risks (the example of Yellow fever)
