Miscarriage
• The cumulative risk of miscarriage ranges from 11‐22% (Avalos et al, 2012)  First trimester miscarriage affects up to a quarter of women trying to
become pregnant in their lifetime (Wang et al, 2003)
• 22.3% IVF pregnancies end in miscarriage (Sunkara et al, 2014)
• Significant clinical and emotional morbidity, affecting couple’s quality of life (Jurkovic et al, 2013)
• Burden on healthcare resources with over 42,000 hospital admissions annually in the UK (Health & Social Care Information Centre, 2012)
