 Limitations of DNA integrity
• Heterogeneity among studies
– Use of different sperm DNA damage assays – Use of different threshold levels
• Consequence of different DNA damages (single, double stranded DNA breaks, immature chromatin or poor chromatin packaging) is unknown
• Unknown if the test conditions would induce artificial damage (Barratt et al., 2010).
Effect of SDF on pregnancy outcome depends on oocyte quality
• 210 couples for IVF/ICSI with fresh or thawed spermatozoa with the women's own or donated oocytes.
• For oocytes from infertile patients, SDF had a significant negative impact on pregnancy. For every 10% increase in SDF, the probability of pregnancy failure increased by 1.31.
• For donated oocytes, SDF did not have a significant effect. Meseguer et al. (2011) Fertil Steril. 95(1):124‐8
