       Which culture media is best?
• For evaluating media:
– What is the relevant endpoint? • Fertilization rate?
• 4‐cells at day 2?
• Blastocyst rate?
• Gene expression profiles/methylation pattern? • Implantation rate/embryo?
• Delivery rate/embryo?
• Cumulative delivery rate (fresh+frozen) ‐cohort • A child with a “normal” phenotype?
Which culture media is the best?
 • Surprisingly large differences between formulations * – why?
• Usually only marginal scientific data supporting the launch of a modified or a new formulation.
– Studies usually small with a suboptimal design
• A CE‐mark does not say anything about the quality of an IVF‐ culture media in terms of implantation rates or long term effects on offspring
– Consistency and traceability
