Blast.transcriptome altered with ammonium gradient exposure with 205 genes displaying greater than two fold decrease in expression and 185 genes showing greater than twofold in expression
 High levels of ammonium effect on mammalian embryos & prevention
• High levels may;
1. Alter embryo differentiation, and viability
2. Detrimentally affect embryo metabolism and gene expression
3. Reduce implantation and fetal development (Lane &Gardner 1994)
4. Create differences in live birth rates and subsequent development of the children conceived; embryo growth kinetics, and birthweight(Dumoulin 2010, Kleijkers 2014)
• Most effective means of alleviating the detrimental effects of ammonium on embryo development in vitro is the renewal of the culture medium after 48hr of culture.
• If uninterrupted extended culture (time-lapse) is to be used media that’s specifically designed to cope with the extended build-up of ammonium from AA breakdown and metabolism(by utilizing lowest effective concentrations of AA)
