Types of Media for Embryo Culture
• Idealformulationforhumanembryoculturemediaandtheroleofindividualcomponents had been a debate over the last 3 decades
• Simplesaltsolutionswithcarbohydrates
• Complextissueculturemedia
• Sequentialmedia
• Simplexoptimizedmedia
• Time-Lapsemedia
What is the perfect medium type& composition?
• Early embryos are capable of adjusting to a range of nutrients in the oviduct and uterus as a way of surviving the variable conditions encountered by the mother during gestation
• Therefore it’s unlikely that a perfect medium composition exists or that only one type & formulation is suitable for human embryos.
• Every medium should provide nutrients within a sufficiently narrow range of concentrations that do not disrupt embryo homeostatis or metabolism to such a degree that embryonic viability or offspring phenotype is affected
