COURSE DESCRIPTION: As ultrasound plays an essential role in the daily management and treatment of subfertility, quality assurance and guidelines on its use are an important part of service delivery. There should be clear guidance on the appropriateness of its use, reproducibility of the technique, standardization of image acquisition, its interpretation and analysis, range of what can be considered acceptable normal values, ultrasound guided surgical procedures, health and safety, training and accreditation.
This course aims to give an insight on what is already available, standardised, regulated and what is needed to make sure that ultrasound is worldwide safe and reproducible in current practise.
The course will focus on: ultrasound diagnostic management of subfertile patients (male and female), safety and quality of ultrasound monitoring of controlled ovarian stimulation, safety and quality of interventional ultrasound, endometrium, infection control in ultrasound, training, education, simulation and accreditation in ultrasound.
TARGET AUDIENCE: Specialty Trainees, Consultants, Clinical Assistants & Associate Specialists, Andrologists, Radiographers, Sonographers, Nurses, Midwifes, Quality Managers
EDUCATIONAL NEEDS AND EXPECTED OUTCOMES:
• To investigate the level of evidence of quality assurance in ultrasound by exploring guidelines available in current practice.
• To highlight infection control issue in ultrasound.
• To review different approaches to interventional ultrasound and their results.
• To promote training and education in ultrasound. To assess how sonographers/doctors/nurses acquire and maintain
skills through time.
• To learn about different educational programmes and standardisation.
• To assess quality and safety of ultrasound in ART
• At the end of this course the audience should have a better understanding of the above outcomes. The aim of this
course is also to raise awareness on the importance of regulating ultrasound in MAR to guarantee safety and reproducibility.
