COURSE 6
Sunday, 14 June I Room: Braga (FIL - between pavilions 2 and 3) When IVF fails: optimal management of recurrent implantation failure Organised by the Special Interest Group Reproductive Endocrinology
COURSE COORDINATORS: Stratis Kolibianakis (Greece) COURSE TYPE: Advanced
COURSE DESCRIPTION: The course will provide a critical appraisal on recurrent implantation failure (RIF), one of the most difficult problems in in-vitro fertilization for both patients and physicians. Focus will be given on the controversy surrounding the definition of RIF and the role of life style factors modification in its management. By critically appraising the existing literature, the course will provide answers to clinically important issues, such as the value of embryo genetic selection, and that of assessing the peri-ovulatory endocrine environment prior to oocyte retrieval. The course will also examine how relevant to RIF is the presence of endocrine disorders or thrombophilia prior to treatment initiation and what is the importance of optimizing embryo transfer technique. Moreover, what is the role of surgery
in the management of RIF and whether paternal contribution is important. Finally, whether RIF can be managed by manipulating the endometrium or, if everything else fails, whether oocyte donation is efficient in these patients.
TARGET AUDIENCE: Reproductive physicians and nurses
EDUCATIONAL NEEDS AND EXPECTED OUTCOMES: This course is expected to have impact on the knowledge concerning cross-cultural issues for counsellors and professionals working in reproductive medicine. It is also expected to challenge current beliefs and practices and provide more in-depth points of view.
