  Banks and registries
The expansion of national and international efforts in stem cell research has led to the establishment of stem cell banks and registries.
The emerging demands of stem cell research and therapeutics require the establishment of centralized banks at a translational and even global scale.
hESC and hiPSC generation for registration and banking needs standardization of the whole process, from embryo or tissue/cell donation to hPSC production.

 Informed consent
• Repositories and banks should guarantee the provenance of the embryos
and human samples from which the hPSC are derived.
• Informed consent mandatory
• hESC lines derived from frozen embryos arising from in vitro fertilization (IVF). Donating couples should be informed about:
 stem cell derivation process
future unspecified research use
and potential clinical or commercial applications.
• Donation of tissues and cells for hiPSC generation must be in accordance with the requirements for tissue use for research (European Tissue and Cells Directive, EUTCD). Same requirements as for hESC.
