Leukocytes and the endometrium
•Immune cells constitute considerable proportion of multicellular endometrial stroma
• 8.2% at proliferative phase (Bulmer et al., 1991)
• 40 – 45% prior to menstruation (Salamonsen and Lathbury, 2000)
• Neutrophilnumbersincreasedramatically at menses (Salamonsen and Woolley, 1999)
• 6 – 15% of stroma (Salamonsen and Lathbury, 2000)
• Macrophages present throughout cycle, but show an increase in number at menses (Poropatich et al., 1997)
