Lower fertility is primarily due to the behavioral effect due to HIV and reproductive decision making.
The HIV Virus
• There are two main types of “HIV” – HIV-1 and HIV-2. If untreated, both end with AIDs
• WithinthemaintypesofHIV,therearemany genetically distinct sub-types.
• Varioussub-typescombinegeneticmaterialtoform a “hybrid virus”, known as a ‘circulating recombinant form’ (CRFs). Around 89 of these are known to exist.
