The human haemochorial system is not a transplant
A transplant involves direct vascular exchange between the host and the transplanted organ. This is not the case for human placenta. A continuous syncitiotrophoblast layer separates maternal and fetal circulation. This specific modality of symbiotic relationship between mother and fetus, is an implant not a transplant.
