Learning objectives:... mind the (information) gap!* • Appraise current information on current access (acording to
indications) and efficiency of fertility preservation in Europe...
... both 1. for medical reasons for adults and children, both sexes
but focusing on female
2. as well as for non medical reasons
• Be able to compare models of present data collections with current evidence of access and efficiency (practice and « results ») informed by data for fertility preservation worlwide....
• Be aware of the gaps in knowledge: storage, and use, lack of denominator (attempts at both), ...and pressing need to establish registers, one of tools to influence stakeholders on behalf of our patients taking equity into account
FP access and efficency (patients, professionals, providers)
• Facts: Demand is growing thanks to improved cancer (and serious disease) care, survival and longevity of patients; also “non medical” requests and increased patients support groups awareness
• Access: may depend on cryopreservation regulations and funding, far from universal or standardised in Europe, or worldwide (a question of equity); patient’s gender (easier for adult male patients?) and age (paeds), information and indications; established networks (eg Oncofertility Consortium since,2007Woodruff USA; Australasian Oncofertilty Consortium by FUTURE team since 2015)
• Efficiency: still “difficult to determine particularly for the pre- pubertal tissue with a scarcity of data” (Gook and Edgar, 2019)
