 Consequentialist considerations
 Costs and access
 False sense of security
 Will there be any ‘healthy’ donors left?
We are all carriers of several potentially harmful genetic mutations!
  Consequentialist considerations
 Costs and access
 False sense of security
 Will there be any ‘healthy’ donors left?  What about the donors?
 How do they feel about being labelled as a good or a bad product?
 What if the donor does not wish to know about all her/his predispositions? (most
problematic in known donation)
 Will she/he be sufficiently counselled about the results of the genetic tests?
 Donors excluded for carrying a recessive disorder may erroneously think they are ill.
 Donors not excluded (but matched to a recipient) may erroneously believe there is no need for preconception screening when they want to have children because they were ‘cleared’.
