CONCLUSIONS
• Ideally, both the AMH assay and pelvic U/S should be used to determine the presence of PCOM, as their combined use causes the nearly disappearance of phenotype B.
• From a cost-effectiveness perspective, however, use of one or the other of these PCOM markers has little influence on the diagnosis of PCOS or the distribution of its different phenotypes according to the Rotterdam criteria.
• Therefore, the choice of one or the other marker depends on local facilities.
• In some settings, it is easier and less expensive to draw and ship a blood sample than it is to send the woman to a facility with trained ultrasonographers equipped with the newest generation U/S machines.
• We need a new consensus conference to define universal thresholds!
