 Limitations
‘Most studies reporting on surrogacy have serious methodological limitations....The perinatal outcome of the children is comparable to standard IVF and oocyte donation and there is no evidence of harm to the children born as a result of surrogacy. However, these conclusions should be interpreted with caution.’ (Soderstrom‐Anttila et al 2016)
Need to differentiate between types of surrogacy arrangement and as noted little research on cross‐border arrangements (Fronek, 2017)
How to think about the evidence
What do we do when evidence is inadequate?
How do we chose what type of evidence to use?
What other considerations should we bring to bear on this issue?
