It is cheap...
It is prolific....
We have been using the Mouse Embryo Assay (MEA) for ages!
WHY IS THE COW A GOOD MODEL FOR HUMAN EMBRYO CULTURE?
- Because it is physiologically more similar to the human than the mouse
- Because it is more sensitive to adverse culture conditions than the mouse (cfr. human)
- Because in vivo embryos can be generated to compare with the “ideal” environment
- Because it can be used to optimize novel systems for human embryo culture
