• Robust surrogate outcome for clinical success
• Higher efficiency with ovarian stimulation use in IVF
• Non‐linear association between oocyte number and live birth following IVF with fresh embryo transfer
• Positive linear increase in cumulative live birth rates with increasing oocyte numbers

• Increased risk of OHSS with >15, >20 oocytes
• Increased risk of PTB, LBW with >20 oocytes
• Understanding important associations between ovarian response, oocytes retrieved and IVF outcomes is useful for planning ovarian stimulation regimens
• Ovarian stimulation within acceptable limits is safe and efficacious
