Is PAPP-A a factor determining size of cyclic recruited cohort?
• •

PAPP-A : highly specific metalloproteinase binding tightly to glycosaminoglycans present on the surface of cells.
By cleaving a subset of insulin-like growth factor binding proteins (IGFBPs), PAPP-A releases bioactive insulin-like growth factor (IGF), a key intra-ovarian mediator of follicle response to FSH (Oxviq et al, 2015).
IGFs stimulate granulosa steroidogenesis, an effect that is inhibited by IGFBP-4 and augmented by IGFBP-4 proteolysis.
PAPP-A produced by granulosa cells has been identified as the IGFBP-4 protease, implicating PAPP-A as a potential marker of ovarian follicle selection (Bøtkjær JA et al, 2015).
