• Repeated hyperosmolar stress promotes breaching through the JNK signalling pathway
• Evidence broadly suggests that embryonic stressors actually advance trophoblast differentiation, depleting stem cell reserves (‘survival at a cost’)
• The effect may be to promote the epithelial phase of implantation
