Webinar 25 May-25 November 2021

Traceability and identification of tissue and cells used for clinical application are one of the key aspects of quality and safety in egg donation ART, both for donors and recipients. Patients as well as tissues and cells now move across the European continent and far beyond, so a uniform coding system has been very much needed. The coding of tissues and cells of human origin was embedded in the EU directives 2004/23/EC. The use of a Single European Code (SEC) was introduced in 2017 for tissues and cells distributed within the EU or exported from the EU. The SEC ensures standardisation within the EU, allowing the integration of the two existing codes (ISBT-128 and Eurocode) within the SEC structure. This course will describe what and how to code, which codes can be used and the status of SEC in the field of ART.

Medically assisted reproduction (MAR) represents a complex system of clinical, laboratory and organisational high-risk procedures for prevention of adverse events is crucial. The culture of risk and safety isI defined in the context of clinical risk management, established as a set of several tools and actions aiming to identify, analyse, evaluate and process risks in order to improve patient safety. Several tools are available to carry out risk analysis reactively, such as the eight disciplines (8D) model. This is a problem-solving approach typically employed by quality managers and successfully applied in healthcare. The purpose of the 8D methodology is to identify, correct and eliminate recurring problems, establishing permanent corrective actions. This course will describe when and how to perform the 8D problem-solving model in the MAR field.
